Graduate Courses

What does “Archaeometry” mean?
Archaeometry as an interdisciplinary and prolific branch of archeology, draws on basic and natural sciences like mathematics, physics, chemistry, geology and metallurgy to answer ecological questions which the methodological foundations of archeology fail to provide an answer for. The social, cultural, historical and artistic fields in archeology give rise to questions for scholars, whose answers can only be sought for in the natural science laboratories.

Graduate program in FAA
Archaeometry in M.A. level has a two year full-time program in FAA. During the first year, students should pass basic and some prerequisite lessons in archaeometry that depend to background of them. In the second year, they can choice one of the two branches of this program: inorganic materials or organic materials, and fallow up the special program for each branch. In the end of second year, and in the form of a research project, the students have to learn the scientific methods of working in chemistry labs, as well as in archaeological excavation sites.  Graduated students would have some skills on:
  • Physical and chemical dating methods of absolute and relative chronologies,
  • Artifact studies include characterization and recognition of provenance of cultural materials and etc.,
  • Mathematical methods of data processing,
  • Geophysical-survey techniques for buried features.
