What does “Conservation and restoration of cultural properties” mean?
In definitions: Conservation of cultural properties involves protection and restoration using "any methods that prove effectiveness in keeping that property in as close to its original condition as possible for as long time as possible". Conservation of cultural heritage is often associated with art collections and museums, and involves collection care and management through tracking, examination, documentation, exhibition, storage, preventative conservation, and restoration. Cesare Brandi, one of the most important theorists of conservation science, describes in his Theory of Restoration (2005), restoration as "the methodological moment in which the work of art is appreciated in its material form and in its historical and aesthetic duality, with a view to transmitting it to the future”. But in the Farsi language, we use restoration (Maramat) for both of these words.
 Conservation of cultural properties applies simple ethical guidelines, as follows:
  • Minimal intervention;
  • Appropriate materials and reversible methods;
  • Full documentation of all work undertaken.

Undergraduate program in FAA
Conservation and restoration of cultural properties in B.A. includes a full-time four year program, where the students have to learn about the scientific and practical methods for safe-workings in labs, workshops and also, in situ.
